Definition: Horizontal Interoperability occurs when applications run and conduct the business of an organization by sharing data automatically.

What This Means: Horizontal interoperability in an education setting refers to the automatic sharing of data and information among applications within the same organization (within a school or within a district). This can be achieved using the SIF Specification and framework. (Contrast with Vertical Interoperability.)
